BORROWED LOOKING FOR ALASKA BY JOHN GREEN. SO EXCITED TO READ THIS BOOK!!
Today I visited the public library’s book store. I’d always judged the store to be expensive, but today I found out that it is a used book store and all of their paperbacks are .50cents, the hardcovers $1.00, and newer selection of hardcovers $2.00. I ended up buying Emma by Jane Austen, The Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, Macbeth by Shakespeare, Mirror Image by Danielle Steel, Edward II by Marlowe, Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi, Othello by Shakespeare, Charlie Wilson’s War by George Crile, and Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky, all for $6.00!! I am so stoked!
Wuthering Heights is not exactly what I imagined. This is one of the first books that i’m having trouble finishing. I’m not captivated by the characters. Catherine, above all, is a vindictive, jealous, brat. She is manipulative and ultimately chooses money and what she thinks is a good reputation over Heathcliff. It is ironic because Heathcliff ends up owning both Wuthering Heights and The Grange. Also, most of the characters are either violent or suffer from violence. ‘Love’ is supposed to explain everyone’s actions: Hinley’s violence and actions worsen after his wife (the only person he loves) dies, Heathcliff abuses Isabella because he isn’t able to be with Catherine, Edgar ultimately chooses to marry and endure Catherine for many years because he is ‘blinded by love’. I think the idea of love is twisted in this novel. Ultimately, the book is not one of my favorites. Hopefully I finally finish it this weekend!
