The Perks of Being a Wallflower

This book is unconventionally philosophic. It pretty much follows the life (as described by anonymous letters) of a ‘wallflower’ and his friends. Takes place in high school and it is relateable to many teens. I even found a character just like myself in there! Read it and tell me what you guys think!

Currently reading: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
At first, I deeply hated this book. It is purposeless, in my opinion. Now i’ve come to esteem the book a bit more. If you’re looking to read romance, this is not the book for you. The best part of the book is the way it is written. Bronte writes the present first and then goes to tell how everything happens. This causes mystery and suspense and you find yourself wanting to know how things end up the way they do. I only sympathized with Hareton and Hindley. I felt like their actions were justified and they were robbed of a better life. However, I didn’t get attached to any of the characters. I thought that Catherine was a deranged brat. She chooses not to be with Heathcliff. At any in the point in the novel she could’ve been with him but instead she drives herself mad and eventually dies. The Linton siblings are meek and naive. I find myself pitying them throughout the novel because they were foolish enough to get with Heathcliff and Catherine. I believe that Cathy and Hareton only ended up together because there is no one for the other to be with, not out of true love.  On the bright side, we get an insight at Gothic time period in this novel. Some of the motifs are worth following. If any of you have read it, let me know what you thought!

Wuthering Heights is not exactly what I imagined. This is one of the first books that i’m having trouble finishing. I’m not captivated by the characters. Catherine, above all, is a vindictive, jealous, brat. She is manipulative and ultimately chooses money and what she thinks is a good reputation over Heathcliff. It is ironic because Heathcliff ends up owning both Wuthering Heights and The Grange. Also, most of the characters are either violent or suffer from violence. ‘Love’ is supposed to explain everyone’s actions: Hinley’s violence and actions worsen after his wife (the only person he loves) dies, Heathcliff abuses Isabella because he isn’t able to be with Catherine, Edgar ultimately chooses to marry and endure Catherine for many years because he is ‘blinded by love’. I think the idea of love is twisted in this novel. Ultimately, the book is not one of my favorites. Hopefully I finally finish it this weekend!
